I am pretty sure you will have to strip the red first by bleaching it. Then you should apply a blonde colour and don't forget to purchase a toner (it makes the blonde look soooo much brighter which is really important). It'll probably be best to get it done professionally but good luck if you're doin a home job :)

You need to do a two step process to lighten hair. Red is real hard to bleach. You need and additive. Consult a professional.

Call your favorite salon and request someone who is good with corrective coloring. Because of the pigments and lifting of color levels, you may be in for an all day affair. I'm not able to see your hair, but just going by what you have said, it will likely need to be bleached 2 or 3 times to get the red out, and ultimately get to the blonde shade you desire. Once your hair color is light enough, your stylist will put a "toner" on it, which is basically adding a blonde color into the processed hair. This will give you the tone you want, ash or gold, etc. Plus it helps fill the damaged cuticle of the hair.
Then, purchase some products from your stylist that will help your hair be as healthy and strong as possible considering what it has been through.
Best of luck!

Buy a box of hair color in the shade that you want, and follow directions. Chances are you hair will not get light blonde on the first application. You best bet would be to go to a hairdresser.
Your hair may need to be stripped of color first before the blonde can be applied.

Red hair (like mine too!) is notoriously difficult to take the red out of. Even with bleaching, it likes to retain the orange base color of the cuticle. To get it ready to look like real blonde and not strawberry-blonde, you'll need a professional to do it. None of the store or blonde dyes or bleaching kits I've tried (and I've tried 6-7 of the major brands) work worth a pooh on naturally red hair, and they dry the hair out like crazy.

I assume that the dark red in an artificial hair color? One of the more difficult color changes. Absolutely go to the salon for this. Personally from not only doing this to many, many clients over the years and having it done on myself I suggest this: Have as much of the pigment removed as can be done with one color remover application. Highlight through the color you are left with. Apply a semi-perm neutralizing natural tone to the hairs in- between the foils. Tone the highlights after. It is going to be much easier to get an even tone this way. You can get away with the blond color having more warmth if the whole head is not the light blond. (The warmth is not because you want it, but because it is SO difficult to get out.) You will repeat this process minus the color removal the next time you have your hair done. By the second time you should be that natural blond you want. I suggest this in two appointments due to all of the chemicals on your hair, the time involved and your pocket book. When celebrities do this they often spend up to 12 + hours in salon.
